Compression wear is being increasingly worn in all kinds of sports from swimming to skiing and more. Even in martial arts like MMA and wrestling they are increasingly seen. Some graplling martial arts like Jiu Jitsu and Judo are also allowing no-gi practice sessions in compression wear, so that throws and clinches can be perfected without holding sleeves and collars of the gi.
Pacific Sports compression wear features tops, pants, and shorts, for both men and women. They are excellent for all types of sporting activities like martial arts, gym & fitness, cross-training, running, and more.
What is a compression wear?
A compression wear is a type of clothes wear that fits tightly to the body, almost like a second skin. A compression wear compresses the surface of the skin and thereby exerts a surface pressure on the body part where it is worn. Due to this balanced pressure, blood flow is accelerated, and the affected muscle groups obtain more oxygen, which prevents fatigue and enhances faster recovery.
Types of compression wear
The two major types of compression wear are:
—Compartmental compression wear
—Graduated compression wear
In compartmental compression wear, the compression is provided in particular compartments or areas of the body. This type of compression wear is usually designed for specific sporting activities, or for medical purposes.
In graduated compression wear, the compression is graduated over an area of a body and thus, during workouts, the blood can flow back easily to the core. This type of compression wear is most often used and is easily available.
Levels of compression
Compression wear can provide four levels of compression.
— mild compression (8-15 mmHg)
— moderate compression (15-20 mmHg)
— firm compression (20-30 mmHg)
— extra firm compression (30-40 mmHg)
Mild and Moderate compression wear are freely available.
Firm and Extra Firm compression wear are available only with a medical prescription.
Healthy athletes tend to use mild or moderate compression wear. Pacific Sports sells compression wear that offers only mild or moderate compression.
It should be noted that compression wear should NOT be worn while sleeping, since they are not designed to be worn in bed.
Benefits of compression wear
Martial artists and sports persons can derive various benefits from compression wear.
- While training or in competitions, the muscles vibrate and oscillate. A compression wear can provide support to the muscles.
- If an impact takes place from a blow, then the muscles shake and might get injured. A compression wear can reduce the shaking of the muscles and thereby, prevent or minimize the injury.
- The muscles can become fatigued after an intensive workout or even during a workout. A compression wear can reduce fatigue, as it keeps the muscles warm.
- A compression wear is stretchable, so martial artists can easily perform stretching exercises, acrobatics, or high kicks.
- A compression wear is breathable, so the body remains cool and comfortable.
- A compression wear can wick away sweat, so the body does not feel sticky.
Besides benefiting martial artists and athletes, a compression wear can also benefit non-athletes, if they suffer from aching and tired legs, or have swollen ankles, or swollen legs. However, non-athletes should use compression wear only after consulting a doctor.
What is the material of a compression wear?
A compression wear is made of a blend of Spandex (also known as Lycra) mixed with polyester, or nylon, or hemp, or cotton, or wool.
Lycra and spandex are one and the same. Sometime in the 1950s, the DuPont Corporation developed an elastomeric polyurethane fibre (polyether-polyurea copolymer) and branded it as “Lycra”. Lycra is also known as elastane, spandex, Numa, Spandelle, and Vyrene; however, all these have the same polyurethane fibre and thus, they are different generic or brand names for the same fibre. This fibre has great stretchability and expands quite a lot; thus, sometimes it is said that the word “spandex” is an anagram of the word “expands”.
Pacific Sports offers high quality compression wear made from a blend of polyester or nylon and Spandex/Lycra. A blend of 85% polyester and 15% lycra offers a mild to moderate level of compression and can serve as training tops or training tights.

- Made from a blend of 85% polyester and 15% lycra, they provide a mild to moderate level of compression.
- Sweat is easily wicked away and the flatlock stitching makes them super comfortable.
- A sublimated design that won’t fade, making them retain their attractiveness for a long time.

Benefits of Pacific Sports compression wear
Pacific Sports compression wear offers multiple benefits including the following:
-it provides a tight fit. The garment is form-fitting and acts like a second skin.
-it provides high breathability. The skin can breathe easily under this garment, so the production of sweat is almost negligible during training.
-it is resistant to water. Even if some sweat is produced, then the perspiration will not damage the garment.
–it has high wicking capability. It can easily wick away any perspiration produced by the body while training, so the body remains cool and comfortable.
-it has high stretchability. No matter how much it is stretched during training sessions, the garment will easily stretch, which makes it resist tearing, even at high pressure point areas.
-it has high elasticity. This makes it bounce back to its original shape. Due to this elasticity, the garment has high shape retention properties along with increased versatility and durability.
-it has high resistance to microorganisms. The garment resists fungi, bacteria and other microorganisms.
-it can be easily washed. Normal cold water with a little amount of mild detergent is enough to thoroughly clean compression wear. It can be machine- or hand-washed.
-it can be easily dried. Hanging compression wear on a clothesline may stretch the material excessively and therefore, laying them on the floor (indoors) or on the grass (outdoors), is preferable.
-it is resistant to wrinkles. The garment needs almost no ironing as it has a high resistance to wrinkles. So, when it is washed and dried, it can be worn immediately.
